Market Square Park is a one-square-block urban green space at the very heart of Downtown Houston's Main Street/Market Square Historic District — the only commercial historic district in Houston and a National Register of Historic Places property — occupying the site of the city's original public market from 1839. Redesigned in 2010 by the Office of James Burnett, the park blends sweeping lawns shaded by mature live oaks, a dramatic trellis structure, a dual-use performance plaza, and a history walkway with bronze inlays tracing Houston's founding. Public art anchor pieces, a crescent-shaped dog run, Lauren's Garden memorial, and a French bistro (Petite Lucie) make it a beloved all-day gathering place for downtown workers, dog owners, families, and visitors.
